The Vaccines Instagram video.

Indie newcomers and office favourites The Vaccines are the latest band to reach out to their fans through the clever use of social media.

The London-based four piece have come up with a unique and innovative idea to create the video for their new single ‘Wetsuit’ using Instagram, the popular photo-sharing application on iPhone.

Fans are being asked to upload images from gigs and summer festivals with the hashtag #VACCINESVIDEO for the chance to be included in the video.

All the pictures are pulled in via the Instagram API to a gallery on www.vaccinesvideo.com from which the best will be selected.

Paul Graham, from Anomaly London, the agency behind the video explained: “Bands and their fans have always had a special connection, and clever technology allows them to get ever closer.

“Using the best social sharing app around we’ve put the creativity in the hands of fans, letting them capture the unique feeling that only a festival gives in a way only they could do justice to.

“Thanks to The Vaccines and Instagram, this summer thousands of individual stories will play out across the world’s muddy fields in a way never done before.”

The project is another example of the growing use of technology in music promotions. Last month Kaiser Chiefs gave fans the opportunity to choose which tracks they wanted on their new album ‘The Future Is Medieval’.

The Leeds band put 20 tracks on their website with any 10 allowed on a customised record.

Fans can design their own cover, buy the album for £7.50 and even earn money if they recommend it to friends who then buy it.
